You will learn:

  • Cells, Viruses and Biomolecules
Cell biology, biomolecule synthesis, organelle function
  • Biotechnology - Tools and Products and Biomolecular Analysis
Proteomics and genomics - Molecular analysis
  • Analyzing Complex Biological Systems
    Systems biology and "biomolecular signatures"
  • The Immune System
Innate and specific, immune recognition (B, T, MHC, TLR), autoimmunity, tools
  • Diseases and Therapeutics

Overview:
The course is designed to inform the student of basic biology, biotechnology and pathology - all the essential elements to understand how biotechnologists come up with product ideas.  It is mostly a picture story with considerable repetition and examples built in to enable learning in a very fun way.  When finished, the participants are quite surprised at how much they have learned.

Who should attend?
All who are interested in learning about the science of biology and how it applies to the biotechnology industry. This course provides enough background to appeal to the novice while bringing new research methods to the practicing engineer.  Research managers, engineers, biochemists, scientists and students should attend.

Professional Development Hours: 8

Participating in this SBE/AIChE short course may qualify as CPC in certain jurisdictions. Attendees will receive a signed Professional Development Hours certificate at the end of the course.
