The Society for Biological Engineering (SBE), an AIChE Technological Community, is a global organization of leading engineers and scientists dedicated to advancing the integration of biology with engineering.

SBE is the professional association of choice for engineers and applied scientists with interest in the broad area of biological engineering. Organized by prominent leaders in industry, academe, and government, the Society is working to expand the reaches of chemical engineering, build upon the interdisciplinary nature of biological engineering, and provide opportunities for successful connections.
SBE Conference Series contribute to bio-related programming at AIChE meetings and at leading biological engineering conferences plus disseminates networking and conference information. SBE's International Conference on Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (ICBN) is held every year. The 4th ICBN will be held July 22-24, 2008 in Dublin, Ireland.

SBE develops new products and services that integrate biology and chemical engineering and are cost effective, relevant, and bring value to the broad biologial community.
SBE Training Initiatives fill critical gaps in biological training for chemical engineers and engineering training for scientists.
SBE Guidance Projects provide a forum for industry members to share best practices in a pre-competitive environment. These programs range from developing industry guidelines and best practices to creating management-level certification program and validation requirements.
SBE Info Collaborations foster appropriate sharing, standardization, and focus of collective knowledge, benefiting both company and practicing engineer. Activities will include a biological properties database and collection of predictive models.
